USAFoods was created in 1996 by Phil (Sr.) and Jeanette Bertino. After a year of having a small sandwich shop on Bourke St in Melbourne, Phil quickly realized that lots of his customers were enjoying the small range of American products he had for sale more than his sandwiches. A year later Phil and Jeanette set up a shop on Martin St, Brighton and opened USAFoods to the public. After a few years of trading in Brighton, it was time to look for a bigger space so the company could import a bigger range of products. In 1999, the store had moved to Nicholson St, Bentleigh, and in 2002 acquired the other half of the building for more storage space. In 2003 USAFoods launched usafoods.com.au, Australia’s first American food store that could be accessed online. The website hosted the entire range of products and for the first time they were available to Australia nationwide. In 2008 the need for a bigger space had come again, and USAFoods moved to Cochranes Rd, in Moorabbin. For the first time, USAFoods had a large size warehouse with an even bigger sized store. In 2013 USAFoods moved again to a bigger and better location, which happened to be on Cochranes Rd again. USAFoods now ships out thousands of orders all around Australia and has a retail store located at 67/73 Cochranes Rd Moorabbin, VIC 3189.
Today, USAFoods continues to be an Australian owned family business that is proud to have the largest range of the best American food. USAFoods is always growing and looking for exciting new American products and ventures to bring to Australians and expats alike.
4th of July
USAFoods is proud to be an Australian company, but we are proud to have a rich American history and influence. USAFoods celebrates Independence Day by having their annual 4th of July Mega Sale during the week of the holiday.
Each year, USAFoods runs a musical light show at their retail shop in conjunction with Hotondo Homes. This light show is free for everyone to come and watch and gets better every year. In 2014 USAFoods had 32,000 lights on display. In 2015 there are plans to have approximately 100,000 lights to be one of the biggest and best Christmas shows in Australia.
USAFoods celebrates Thanksgiving the traditional way, by having a family dinner with loved ones. Each year USAFoods celebrate Thanksgiving by supporting the American Woman’s Auxiliary.
From 1998 – 2010, USAFoods ran Halloween trick-or-treat events for kids aged 12 and under. Each year approximately 800 trick-or-treaters would roam through Martin St and Bentleigh Shopping center in the spirit of Halloween. Unfortunately due to our current location we cannot run these events anymore. Each year USAFoods run their highly anticipated Scary Box deal which is packed full of Halloween spirited goodies at a discounted price. These Scary Boxes are known to sell out quickly so make sure you’re ready come Halloween!
